English 1010 Final

We were given the opportunity to choose a topic in class.  The one I chose are the effects of 

violent video games.  I believe it is an important subject since more than ever children are playing 

video games and more specifically violent ones.  So I hope it is as informative for you as it has 

been for me.  I hope my brochure as my genre translation will make for a comprehensive guide 

for any parent that has kids.

Reflective Writing:

  • Describe the rhetorical situation as you see it for both your issue summary paper and your genre translation.  Be sure to discuss both audience and purpose for both documents.
I chose parents as my audience for my issue summary paper.  My goal was to inform parents 
about violent video games to ultimately help them be involved in their kids video game choices.
Also to ponder about whether or not violent video games are harmful to children.  I also chose parents as my audience for my genre translation.  The aim was to let the ideas that are presented in my issue summary paper get put into a briefer guide form for my genre translation.  

  • Describe the revisions you made in your issue summary paper and your genre translation, and discuss why you made those revisions.
I added more to the beginning and end of my issue summary paper to essentially commence and terminate the flow better.  There were some transitional and linking words that I injected into the mix to organize the thought process of each perspective.  The main adjustments I made on my genre translation involved enlarging the font size and eliminating some words to make it more appealing.  

  • What did you learn about research and about writing in these assignments?
I have learned the importance of doing extensive research and involve many perspectives.  Through writing a person can connect to the things they have done research on.  This in turn created a personal link between me and the topic I have chosen.  It has also magnified the importance of checking the source for validity in substance on the issue at hand.  I know this knowledge can serve me well in the future.
